The elegant Villa Mimbelli in Livorno has housed since 1994 the Civic Museum dedicated to the Livornian painter Giovanni Fattori.
Built on three floors, originally the villa housed on the second floor the rooms for private use, while the two lower floors, with rich eclectic decorations, were dedicated to the reception rooms. In the current museum structure of the villa, the rooms on the second floor, less significant from an architectural point of view, exhibit most of the works kept by the museum, with a typical museographic approach. Those on the lower floors, on the other hand, mainly represent their own magnificence, punctuated only occasionally by works that complete the museum collection.
This criterion is reflected in the new lighting project. The second floor is illuminated according to the typical criteria of museography lighting, based on technical luminaires; on the lower floors, on the contrary, the architectural and environmental aspects take precedence, aimed at recreating, as far as possible, the original atmosphere of the villa.
