The Palazzo della Gherardesca in Florence was built between 1472 and 1480 to a design by Giuliano da Sangallo, and remodeled in the 18th century by Giovan Battista Foggini. The palace includes a park of about 5 hectares, the largest private green space in the city, considered a national monument on a par with the palace.
The palace was the object of an impressive renovation project, which transformed it into a luxury hotel, and also included the adjacent building and park, which originally housed a convent. The challenge of the project was to reconcile the preservation of such a rich heritage with the modern requirements of a luxury hotel. The lighting project, both for the interiors and the park, also sought to reconcile the functional requirements with the need to restore the atmosphere of the spaces.
